Novel product candidates

With use of the SoluCel technology platform, novel product candidates are generated:

  • Products without unwanted, e.g. toxic, off-color or off-flavor, compounds are made by eliminating the expression of genes involved in their synthesis.
  • Modification of the expression of genes from secondary metabolite pathways can result in the synthesis of novel compounds.
  • In a rational combinatorial biochemistry approach biosynthesis pathways for similar, but not identical, metabolites in different plant species are compared to find clues on how to realize modifications required for generating novel or improved (e.g. safer, more efficacious) product candidates.
  • Cell cultures of e.g. medicinal plant species, available at SoluCel, are used as catalysts in biotransformation experiments to effect unique modifications of compounds.
